Interview with Lara Hotz (photography)

We were lucky enough to catch up with Lara Hotz! The hopeless romantic and amazingly talented photographer candidly shares a bit about herself and what it takes to be the successful artist that she is.

Lara is full of fresh and creative ideas! I absolutely love her work!!!

Who is Lara Hotz?
I am a social being and an avid dreamer. I like old furniture and fresh air. I am an explorer of new places and faces and a hopeless romantic. But most importantly? I love taking photos. It’s not just my job. It’s my passion. I’m never without a camera and documenting life and moments is a daily occurrence.

Tell us a bit about Lara Hotz Photography:
I am so lucky to work with a group of talented and creative people who share my love of visual storytelling. Coming from a Fine Arts background, our young and devoted team are always exploring fresh and creative interpretations.
We believe photography is about capturing moments and finding beauty in unlikely places and at its best when underscored by truth. We draw inspiration from the love, laughter, characters and atmosphere, aiming to document the story as it unfolds in a natural and unobtrusive way. We capture this by combining spontaneity and sophistication to every shoot.
But most importantly, we want to get to know you. It’s your story after all. We want you to feel comfortable with us, be yourselves and have fun, so that we can give you images that reflect who you are.

What inspired you to become a photographer?
Nothing really inspired me to become a photographer. I think it’s because I never really became a photographer. I always grew up documenting everything. I have thousands and thousands of photographs and albums from my childhood. My parents always took thousands of photographs of us growing up so it was almost a natural progression. Now I am just lucky that my job is something that I have loved to do for many years.

What has been your most favourite moment(s) in your career so far?
I don’t think I would be able to pick a most favourite moment in my career. Some things that come to mind are the iphonegraphy exhibition I was apart of last year, as well as some recent weddings I captured of beautifully creative and inspiring couples. I also love being able to give back through my job and share my love with deserving families, such as when I documented a special portrait for a family whose young daughter was ill with cancer.  But honestly I am just so lucky to be able to work with so many different types of people documenting so many different things from fashion to beauty, portraits to weddings, meeting bands and models and beautiful couples in love. I am so grateful for it all and there is always something new and fun and different happening so it’s always exciting!

What inspires you?
I am continuously inspired by life. People, friends, colours, space, nature, light, sounds, everything. Going on road trips, traveling, always stepping out of my comfort zone and going on adventures. I love sitting back and observing people interacting with each other. I love following blogs, pinterest, tumblr, and staying up to date with some super talented photographers blogs and websites.
Inspiration is everywhere and never ending.

What do you love about shooting weddings?
An easier question to answer would be what don’t I love about shooting weddings. I love everything about weddings. The couples, the love, the gathering of families and loved ones. The milestone and importance of the symbolic union of two people who want to spend the rest of their lives together. The details, the flowers, the dresses and suits, the locations and vows, the unique and creative twists on the traditional weddings. The bonds and connections and relationships between family members and friends. The laughter and happiness and joy and celebration!!
I love weddings!

Your view on same-sex marriage?
Love is love. Nothing more nothing less. Same sex marriage is something I definitely support.

Do you think you would like to get married some day?
YES, YES YES YES YES! I would love to get married one day. I love everything about marriage, the traditions, the union of two people in love and the celebration and joy of the day! I can’t wait to plan my own wedding one day.
